EAST GRINSTEAD POTTERY

The pottery, in East Grinstead, where we lived at that time, ceased working in 1940 and was left by the owner in his will when he died in December 1970 to a local charity. The charity was only interested in the land value so put the pottery up for sale, with all the land. Being interested in industrial archaeology a friend and I obtained permission to photograph and retrieve as much of the pottery equipment, moulds, pots, fired and unfired, the potters wheel, etc that had not been touched for forty years and presented it to the East Grinstead museum where a substantial amount is now on public display.
